The Disasters

I don't know where to start with this band. From the MTV cesspool of being wannabes, this band is just thoroughly unoriginal. You can sense that they must have prac ticed in front of the mirror a lot try to get the poses right from what they saw their favourite bands do in music videos. The band's songsalso sound like nothing more but recycle parts of songs you've heard lots of times before and in better guises.

This is a band that not only needs a lot of work, but needs a new identity as well. It's going to take a miracle for The Disasters to really be anything worth watching. One thing good about the band is that they live up to their band name.

Lollipop Conspiracy

This band was an impovement over Almost Famous. Here was a band that knew at least the importance of having melodies you can turn along to set against you guitar parts. I actually could still hear some of Lollipop Conspiracy's songs in my head after the show. Lead singer Atrul shows plenty of promise and I think this band can do a lot more than it is curently. They just need to focus more on being a tighter band, overall through not too bad in spite of the warts and all in the band's performnce

Almost Famous

I counldn't the past the bands first song. They had an effect to my ears what two fingers down my throat would feel like. The band obviously has a lot of heart on stage, but it would hav been better if they used all that energy in writing some decent songs before deciding it was time to go in front of an audience.

By theband's third song though, I think I just got adjusted to how mediocre they were that i started thinking maybe this wasn't so bad. All in all, I would say this band can still improve.

Fresh Blood For Fresh Fans

I did a lot of things over the past weekend. I finally manage to find my Strokes CD collection that went missing while I was cleaning my room, I finally started liking Frank Zappa and I had the unfortunate experience of having to sit through the sets ofthree up and coming Malaysian bands.

I would have preferred is none of these bands are were neither "up" nor "coming" and would just stay down. Let's run through each band individually.

Review - Hit or Miss (Planet Droids) 2 ½ stars

A little known band hailing from the southern part of Malaysia (Kedah) to be exact! Performed at Paul’s Place last Saturday. They were ripe but at times strike a little resemblance to The Strokes in style and approach.

Would originality matter when you sound good enough? I guess not…Planet Droids were decent enough to hold the crowds to their somewhat signature style, but lacking the distinct manner of showmanship. They were fairly dull in comparison to some bands out there in the same league. Planet Droids came in with “Sunyi Sepi” a solid number meant for a stadium size crowd and environment, but soon found themselves struggling to hold the crowd with “Unggu jelita”.

Having performed on a number of occasions, Planet Droid has the ability to grow with its fan base, but progress is dependent on the route you take to get where you set out to be. What lies ahead is something we would be witnessing in good time.

Time

Watching life pass you by, seems a little scary sometimes, the clock ticks as if time is standing still…but in fact it moves so peacefully without a worry in the world. Time remains a measure for all things living or dead…time is our mentor, a friend, a teacher, our light…our hope…
